Alongside the consumer rollout, OpenAI is also bringing the underlying improvements to its API through two new models. The first, GPT-Image-2.5 Flare, is described as carrying over the same gains in image quality, editing capability, and generation speed that define the ChatGPT Images 2.5 update, giving developers building on OpenAI's API access to the same core upgrades available to end users. OpenAI also named a second new API model, GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst, though further detail on how it differs from Flare wasn't included in the announcement. The naming convention suggests OpenAI may be positioning multiple image models with different tradeoffs, similar to how it has previously offered variant models tuned for different speed, cost, or quality priorities.
