OpenAI Begins Rolling Out GPT-6 Sol and Luna

OpenAI has started deploying two new GPT-6 variants, Sol and Luna, across ChatGPT, Codex, and its API, with paid tiers getting full access first and free users getting a limited preview.

OpenAI announced that its next-generation models, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, are now going live across its products. According to the company's post on X, both models are rolling out today in ChatGPT Work and Codex for subscribers on the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. The announcement also confirms that Sol and Luna are being made available through OpenAI's API, giving developers direct access to build with the new models rather than only through OpenAI's own consumer apps. Access is more limited for OpenAI's free and Go-tier users, who are only being given the ability to try GPT-6 Luna, and only within the desktop version of the ChatGPT app. Sol does not appear to be part of that free rollout based on OpenAI's statement. OpenAI did not use the announcement to detail what technical differences separate Sol from Luna, or what improvements either model brings over prior GPT versions. As with past model rollouts, further specifics about capabilities and pricing may follow in subsequent OpenAI communications.
